The Piliated Woodpecker is a familiar bird in rural Ontario. This carving is 3/4 size and displayed on a natural deadwood block. Photo studies of this relatively tame bird were taken as he insisted on 'doing in' one of the back posts of our tennis court one summer. This carving took a first place in the intermediate division at the annual Buckhorn Woodcarving Show in Buckhorn, Ontario.
